Receivers
for solar power plants set new standards
Mainz, April 14, 2009 – Securing
the power supply and presenting alternative methods for generating it will be
the main focus of the leading trade fair “Energy 2009” that is being held under
the umbrella of the Hannover Messe (April 20 – 24, 2009). SCHOTT Solar
offers solutions for both of these challenges that have more than proven
themselves in everyday life. Visitors can learn more about the quality features
that characterize the products from SCHOTT Solar in hall 13, booth C49. The
main focus will be on the photovoltaic modules from the model ranges SCHOTT
POLY and SCHOTT EFG, as well as SCHOTT receivers for large solar power plants
based on parabolic trough technology.
Overview
of the modules on exhibition
The high-performance SCHOTT POLY 175 module is a true
all-rounder, designed for a system voltage of up to 1000 V and equipped with
rigorously tested multicrystalline solar cells with particularly narrow power
tolerance. A so-called protective oxidic layer preserves the module’s aluminum
frame for a much longer period of time. The SCHOTT POLY 175 can stand up to
suction and pressure loads of up to 550 kg per square meter.
The SCHOTT POLY 225 is especially known for its extremely
high nominal output. The surface area of the module is used extremely
effectively, thanks to the 6-inch cells. The particularly close selection of
module performance allows for serial connection with only slight connection
losses. This means the SCHOTT POLY 225 is well-suited for both
individual applications and larger systems.
SCHOTT Solar developed a special double glass technology that
offers extremely high durability against severe weather conditions, strong
suction and pressure loads, but also high ammonia or methane contamination
levels in agricultural environments. The new SCHOTT Poly 300 combines 50 years
of experience in encapsulation technology with the most advanced cell
technology for generating sustained yields in places with extreme environmental
conditions.
Besides the high power yields they offer and their high
quality workmanship, the new EFG solar electricity modules from SCHOTT Solar
offer many other advantages. They truly excel with their outstanding long-term
electrical stability and high energy output. Their slightly textured, extremely
homogeneous dark blue appearance gives these modules a high quality look.
Besides, EFG technology is a patented technique for manufacturing wafers in an
economical way and actually saves material. The SCHOTT EFG 165 is a combination
of a manufacturing technique that conserves resources, high- performance cells
and a 20-year performance guarantee.
Receivers
for solar power plants – generating solar electricity on a grand scale
The CSP (Concentrated Solar Power) division of SCHOTT Solar
also makes a major contribution towards environmentally friendly generation of
energy. In this area of its business, the company develops and manufactures
receivers that are a core component of solar power plants that use parabolic
trough technology. These types of power plants are already being operated quite
successfully in the U.S. and Spain and are capable of supplying entire cities
with clean electricity. The latest generation of SCHOTT receivers increases the
efficiency of such solar power plants quite substantially. Due to the future
importance of this invention and its outstanding research work, SCHOTT was
nominated last year for what is probably the most important innovation prize in
Germany, the Technology and Innovation Prize from Germany’s Federal President.
